September 5, 2022 TenIntelligence continues to achieve data protection compliance success with ISO27001 certification in Information Security Management for another year.

TenIntelligence is thrilled to announce that the company continues to meet ISO27001 compliance standards for another year.

This ISO27001 annual audit was assessed by Ryan Cox from the British Assessment Bureau, (an UKAS accreditation body) and internally led by Lynsey Hanson, our DPO and Compliance Officer.  The audit covered several fields including relevant documentation, the scope of our Information Security Management System, business continuity, risk assessments and internal procedures as well as control checks appropriate to our business and service provisions.

Neil Miller, founder at TenIntelligence, added, “Our clients’ trust in our professionalism and attention to detail is one of our most respected possessions.  The protection of their data continues to be of paramount importance to us, which is why we are delighted to share the news of our continued ISO27001 compliance. As always, thanks goes to Lynsey and the whole team for their continued support.”

The certification was assessed and recognised for the provision of global due diligence, corporate fraud investigations, digital forensics, brand protection and privacy advisory services.

With ISO27001 in place, TenIntelligence continues to minimise risk to potential data security breaches, while demonstrating credibility, assurance and trust.  TenIntelligence has an integrated compliance programme for every process, which continues to provide assurances for our clients.

April 26, 2022 TenIntelligence celebrates World Intellectual Property Day 2022

IPday2022

TenIntelligence encourages and celebrates the innovation, ingenuity and creativity of those individuals and organisations who provide us with the technology, energy and sustainability that are driving positive change in our daily lives.

This year, the theme focuses on IP and Youth innovating for a Better Future. The World Intellectual Property Organization shares with us how young inventors, creators and entrepreneurs can use intellectual property (IP) rights to achieve their goals, generate income, create jobs, tackle local and global challenges and support community and national development.

  • There are around 1.8 billion young people (under 24) in the world today. Ninety percent of them live in developing countries. The proportion of young people (under 35) is set to increase in the coming years.
  • The youth of today are an incredible and largely untapped source of ingenuity and creativity that can help drive the changes we need to move to a more sustainable footing.
  • Their fresh perspectives, energy, curiosity and “can do” attitude, and their hunger for a better future, are already reshaping approaches and driving action for innovation and change.
  • World Intellectual Property Day 2022 is an opportunity for young people to find out how IP rights can support their goals, help transform their ideas into reality, generate income, create jobs and make a positive impact on the world around them.
  • Young people are the future. With IP rights, young people have access to some of the key tools they need to advance their goals and ambitions.
  • With IP, individuals and businesses create value and can do better, communities can thrive, and national economies can prosper.
  • WIPO is working with its member states and partners to create a legal and policy environment for young inventors, creators and entrepreneurs to thrive.
  • Young people are natural agents of change, with energy, creativity and innovation to build a sustainable world.

Protecting these young inventors is a mission that our teams at TenIntelligence takes pride in. So today, please celebrate innovation, support our young creative minds and remember not to cut corners and engage with people selling fake, cheap alternatives and counterfeit products.

World trade in FAKE goods is rising. Creativity and Innovation is being infringed.

Our brand protection services helps clients identify whether their products or intellectual property are being exploited or counterfeited.  Trademark infringements are serious Intellectual Property crimes that defraud consumers. They threaten the health and safety and violate the rights of trademark, patent, and copyright owners.  Moreover, “Fake” or “Forged” products pose a significant threat to consumers’ safety by putting their health and safety in jeopardy.
Alcoholic beverages, food products, electronic goods, software, toys and luxury items, automobiles and aircraft parts are being maintained with substandard or counterfeit parts. This continues to be a huge risk to consumers and the brand owners’ reputation.

December 14, 2020 Do you know what Data Protection changes your business needs to make before the end of the Brexit transition period?

From 1 January 2021, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be replaced by “UK GDPR”, a UK centric version. Whilst this will substantially mirror the current European GDPR and still sit alongside our Data Protection Act 2018, there will be a number of currently unknown and unintended consequences for organisations and their advisers managing personal data transfers and breaches in the UK.

After the Brexit transition period, transfers of personal data from the UK to the European Economic Area (EEA) will be permitted. The EU GDPR will continue to apply to the EEA exporter of personal data and the new UK GDPR will replace the EU GDPR version in the UK.

Transfers of personal information out of the UK to the EEA may continue but transfers from the EEA will be unlawful without additional measures in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses being inserted into existing contracts.

The UK is going through an adequacy assessment – no timeframe on, or if, when a decision can be expected. The Information Commissioner’s Office latest guidance for Small and Medium Enterprises, is to prepare if we do not have adequacy at the end of the transition period.

An EU representative will be required for UK organisations if they offer goods and services to individuals in the EU; if they monitor their behaviour; if they don’t have a branch, office or establishment within the EEA.

If you need help or training with UK data protection, GDPR or an understanding of how to be data protection compliant, contact us at @TenIntelligence!

January 8, 2020 TenIntelligence, a leading influence in the due diligence, fraud investigation, brand protection and cyber security community continues to demonstrate its commitment to cyber security by successfully meeting the Government endorsed “Cyber Essentials Plus” standard.

cyber-essentials-plus-badgeThe team at TenIntelligence is delighted to announce that we successfully gained the Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation for 2020 and beyond.

Our team constantly strive to protect ourselves and clients against different cyber risks and vulnerabilities.  We continue to maintain the highest security standards, applying them across the board, ensuring the whole company fully applies and shares the same ethos.

Cyber Essentials is a UK Government assurance standard (led by the National Cyber Security Centre), designed to improve the resilience of UK businesses to prevent most cyber-security threats. Cyber Essentials Plus is an advanced level of assurance and includes an additional internal scan and on-site assessment carried out independently by a Certification Body.

As part of our certification process, a technical review and evaluation of our security processes, policies and cloud platforms was completed by an external certifying body Crest.

The Cyber Essential Plus scheme requires TenIntelligence to implement five key controls:

  • Secure configuration
  • Boundary firewalls and internet gateways
  • Access control and administrative privilege management
  • Patch management
  • Malware protection

Our Chief Operating Officer, Richard Bell, welcomed the accreditation, “Cyber Essentials Plus is an important certification for us. It clearly demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continually ensure that TenIntelligence is at the forefront of applying the best security standards. Security is crucial to everything that we do and achieving this certification along with our well established ISO27001 certification, allows us and our clients to operate with confidence.”

Neil Miller, CEO and founder added, “our continued mission is to help protect our clients, colleagues and their livelihoods from harm through effective due diligence, investigation and protection.  We are really pleased to receive the accreditation and extend our cyber security services to our clients. As with our other ISO accreditation and processes, this was again a team effort and I congratulate them on this success.”

The unstoppable growth and dynamic of cyber-enabled crime mean organisations of all sizes need to rethink their approach to the security.  Everyone knows that security is important, and we all rely on the Internet, IT and other connected systems, all of which without the appropriate protection could be at risk from cyber-attack. These attacks are becoming increasingly more sophisticated and stealthier, targeting people, networks and devices.

TenIntelligence provides jargon-free, cyber simplified advice and services to all organisations.

March 25, 2019 TenIntelligence, in partnership with Underwriters Laboratories and Sharjah CID, have successfully carried out raids on counterfeit electronic products

Our Dubai team has recently partnered with UL, a global independent safety science company, to assist officers from Sharjah Criminal Investigation Department in identifying almost AED 4 million worth of counterfeit products and items that featured unauthorised trademarks.

TenIntelligence worked with the Sharjah CID and provided them with evidence of the counterfeit products that featured unauthorised trademarks and the warehouse locations before the operation, as well as additional assistance during the raid actions.

A total of 30,546 illegal lithium-ion batteries, AC adaptors, chargers, keyboards, hard drives, and LCD screens, amongst other items with a total value of AED 3,997,667, were confiscated.

TenIntelligence is delighted to work with the local and global law enforcement authorities and contribute to apprehend and prosecute counterfeiters who break the law. It is also important to recognise that this successful collaboration has protected the public’s safety and prevented the spread and sale of illegal and dangerous counterfeit goods across the Emirates.

The operation was the latest in a series of ongoing collaborations between UL, TenIntelligence, police and local authorities in the UAE designed to target sellers and manufacturers of illegal and dangerous counterfeit goods.

Neil Miller, Group CEO at TenIntelligence endorsed the collaboration, “this joint approach, working alongside the Sharjah CID and brand protection leaders at UL, proves that we can prevent the sale and distribution of dangerous and substandard goods. For clients like UL, it is their dedication and utmost desire to help prevent harm to all consumers, and not just the financial value of the goods that have been removed from the markets. Congratulations to all involved, our Dubai Team, Sharjah CID and Natalie Wong and Hamid Syed at UL”.

Hamid Syed, vice president and general manager of UL Middle East, said: “The ongoing co-operation between UL, Ten Intelligence and the authorities in the UAE has had a major impact on the sale and distribution of potentially dangerous counterfeit goods across the Emirates. We commend the swift action of the authorities and their resolve to apprehend and prosecute counterfeiters who break the law and also applaud their determination to protect consumers from illegal counterfeit products. Not only are these items in breach of strict international trademark and licensing laws, they also pose a very real threat to the safety of the public who may be fooled into purchasing fakes as these products have not passed the strict and rigorous testing procedures required to ensure they are safe to use. We urge members of the public to always purchase legitimate and genuine products that have been tested and certified to ensure their quality and safety and to prevent the spread and sale of illegal and dangerous counterfeit goods.”

July, 18 2018 The ACFE releases the 10th Edition of the Report to the Nations

The 2018 Report to the Nations remains the most comprehensive and widely quoted source of occupational fraud data in the world. Based on information from real fraud cases as reported by Certified Fraud Examiners from around the globe, the report continues to be a tremendous resource for those interested in how occupational fraud is committed, how it is detected, who commits it, and how organizations can protect themselves from it.

The 2018 Report to the Nations is based on the results of the ACFE 2017 Global Fraud Survey, an online survey of Certified Fraud Examiners conducted from July 2017 to October 2017. Respondents were asked to provide information about the single largest fraud case they had investigated that met the following four criteria:

  1. The case must have involved occupational fraud.
  2. The investigation must have occurred between January 2016 and the time of survey participation.
  3. The investigation must have been complete at the time of survey participation.
  4. The respondent must have been reasonably sure the perpetrator(s) was (were) identified.

Respondents were presented with 76 questions regarding the details of the fraud case, including information about the perpetrator, the victim organization, and the methods of fraud employed, as well as fraud trends in general. After completing the survey the first time, respondents were provided the option to submit information about a second case that they investigated. We received 7,232 total responses to the survey, 2,690 of which were usable for purposes of the report.

The Marcura Group, a Dubai-based group of companies focused on providing innovative business solutions to the maritime industry, today announced the appointment of Ten Intelligence Limited’s Richard Bell as its external Data Protection Officer (DPO). This appointment follows the recent hiring of Peter Meyer as a Data Protection Specialist working under the Group’s Legal & Compliance Department.

These appointments are aimed at strengthening the Group’s ability to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar international data protection regulations, which focus on the protection of personal data. In particular, GDPR comes into force on the 25th of May 2018 and all organizations doing business in the EU or that hold or transport EU citizen data are required to have the necessary policies and processes to comply with the law.

As Marcura’s external DPO, Richard Bell will serve as an independent consultant for the entire Group on matters related to GDPR compliance. He currently heads up the TenIntelligence Security & Privacy practice, advising companies located in Europe, Middle East and United States on physical and cyber security matters. He served as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Head of Cyber Security Operations & Investigations for Transport for London (TfL), the government body and transportation organization that oversees Greater London’s road and rail networks (such as the London Underground), buses, taxis, bicycles and river services.  He works regularly with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). As Data Protection Specialist, Peter Meyer works in close coordination with Marcura’s Information Security Team in order to improve the governance of information handled and processed by the Group. He holds both a Bachelor of Laws from the University of South Africa and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Law from the University of Cape Town. A qualified attorney in South Africa, he completed his Articles of Clerkship in a labour law firm before serving as in-house counsel for a business that specialises in providing mobile health care services, which makes him very familiar with personal data.

“Marcura has always endeavored to hold itself up to the highest standards of compliance for the benefit of its customers, and this is no different when it comes to meeting its obligations under the GDPR. The GDPR is considered to be the most stringent data protection law in the world, and with its upcoming implementation, the Group has now taken the necessary steps and initiated various measures to comply with it. The addition of Richard and Peter will help us push this agenda forward,” says Felix J. Antero, General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer of the Group.

December 8, 2017 General Data Protection Regulations come into affect on May 25, 2018

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) comes into effect on 25 May 2018 and replaces most of the provisions of the UK’s Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and other local data protection laws and directives across the European Union. It will introduce new procedures and tougher rules on how personal information must be handled and protected.

GDPR is clear and concise, but carries substantial financial penalties for non-compliance and significant reputational harm, than ever before.

However, there are new elements and significant enhancements, so you will have to do some things for the first time and some things differently.

TenIntelligence offers support and delivers the following advisory services to assist with your organisation’s readiness and continued compliance for GDPR:

Audit & Assessments:

Whether you have already begun a GDPR compliance project or you are about to embark, TenIntelligence can provide a GDPR assessment service which will help your business identify any compliance gaps and provide expert guidance on actions that needs to happen before May 2018.

Data Protection Officer:

Even where a business is not required by the GDPR to appoint a DPO, they are encouraged under the regulation to appoint one. TenIntelligence offers a “DPO Service” subscription that provides clients with the piece of mind that there is always an appointed qualified person.  that importantly holds no a conflict of interests within your business and is available to help at any stage.

Corporate Security

Most business will already understand what data protection means to their operation. TenIntelligence can review, design and develop the governance model required with a bespoke GDPR compliance program able to work at all levels appropriate for your organisation.

Breach & Incident Response:

There are many public examples of high profile data breaches, sometimes hidden behind the term “cyber-attack”. The consequences of any breach for any size business could be catastrophic. Our experienced cyber operatives can work with the executive team to design, develop, communicate and test all aspects of the incident response plan to provide confidence to the business when the inevitable happens, the business is well placed to respond.

International Background Checks

TenIntelligence can help assess what data you have, how secure it is, what your business is using it for and consider how you can interact with customers, suppliers and partners. This is crucial for offering transparency and trust which is demanded from GDPR.

November 25, 2017 General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) - 6 months to go

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) comes into effect on 25 May 2018 and replaces most of the provisions of the UK’s Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and other local data protection laws and directives across the European Union. It will introduce new procedures and tougher rules on how personal information must be handled and protected.

GDPR is clear and concise, but carries substantial financial penalties for non-compliance and significant reputational harm, than ever before.

The Information Commissioner’s Office has released the following “12 step checklist” highlighting how to prepare for the GDPR. Many of the GDPR’s main concepts and principles are much the same as those in the current Data Protection Act (DPA), so if you are complying properly with the current law then most of your approach to compliance will remain valid under the GDPR and can be the starting point to build from.

However, there are new elements and significant enhancements, so you will have to do some things for the first time and some things differently.

TenIntelligence offers support and delivers advisory services to assist with your organisation’s readiness and continued compliance for GDPR.
